Pragmora’s volunteer Research Associates are strong analysts who are passionate about building peace and about about making a real difference in the world.
Typically, each Research Associates focuses on one specific conflict. They prepare detailed timelines of the history of the region and the conflict, and clearly delineate the key issues and key players in the conflict. All work submitted is put through a rigorous vetting process.

Erika Richter1gray

Erika Richter is a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Peace Studies. She is particularly interested in cross-cultural relations. In the summers of 2012 and 2013, Erika worked as a counsellor for Seeds of Peace International Camp in the US, which brought together youth from different sides of ongoing conflicts–Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. more

waQas Yousafzaisq_gray

WaQas Yousafzai is an international affairs and public policy professional. He completed a year-long Policy Analyst traineeship in Syria, Austria, and Qatar for the Government of Canada, and has also served as a Communications Advisor for Canada’s ODA to the Republic of Ghana. Waqas holds a B.A. (Honours) in Sustainable Local Economic Development and an M.A. in Public Policy and International Affairs. He has studied in in Canada, Israel, Sweden, and the USA. more

Raphael Mugabonejogray

Raphael Mugabonejo is Rwandan and has worked in Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria, and South Sudan undertaking needs assessments for street children, evaluating factors that impact enrollment of girls in school, and interning with UNICEF. Raphael holds a Master’s degree in International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid. He speaks English, French, Rwandan and Luganda. more

Pragmora research focus: Reintegration of former combatants.

Loes Weijers3gray

Loes Weijers is a specialist in international development communications, conflict resolution analysis, and the refugee-aid worker relationship. Her work focuses on Nepal and the DR Congo. Loes has lived and/or worked in Nepal, South Africa, Israel, and Syria, and speaks, in varying degrees, English, Dutch, French, Italian and German. more

Pragmora research focus: South Sudan.

Jessica Anderson 2012gray

Jessica Anderson is a specialist in forced migration, traditional justice, DDR, social cohesion interventions, and measurement of peacebuilding effectiveness. Over the past 8 years, she has lived and worked extensively in Uganda and South Africa. Jessica holds an MA in Forced Migration Studies, and is currently pursuing a PhD at George Washington University. She conversational in French and a beginner in Xhosa. more

Ben Poyntongray

Ben Poynton holds a Master of Laws in International Development Law and Human Rights (University of Warwick, UK), and is a passionate social justice advocate. “Peace, power and righteousness. These are the reasons why I got involved with Pragmora. It is rare when you are looking for volunteer work that an organisation really speaks to what you want to do with that endeavour.”

Jenn Wiebegray

Jenn Wiebe is a Senior Policy Analyst with the Mennonite Central Committee in Canada where she conducts research and analysis on how Canadian government policies impact international peace and justice issues (e.g., extractive sector issues, Cluster Munition Convention, peacekeeping missions). She has conducted research in Sri Lanka, Nigeria, DR Congo, Burundi, and Colombia. more

Jessica Russell
Jessica Russell is a research and policy professional with a focus on international affairs, human security, conflict resolution and political risk analysis. Jessica has worked in rural Cameroon helping to increase citizen access to justice and to strengthen good governance. Jessica holds a M.A. in Political Science from the University of Waterloo.

Pragmora research focus: Liberia.
