PEACE IN THE CONGO – E-ACTION

#FreeFred #FreeYves

Add your voice to the international call to release Fred and Yves from prison.

August 24, 2015

Fred Bauma and Yves Makwambala are young pro-democracy activists in the Congo who have been in prison since March 15.

The European Union, UK, US, and United Nations, plus Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and more than 200 other rights groups in the Congo and around the world have called for an end to extrajudicial arrests in the Congo, and support the immediate and unconditional release of these two young men. In late April, the Congolese Parliamentary Commission found no evidence against Fred and Yves, and urged the country’s Attorney General to expedite the processing of their release.

And yet, Fred and Yves remain in prison.

I’d like to add that I know Fred Bauma personally. He is young colleague of Pragmora. Fred is deeply committed to nonviolent action, and to peace, democracy and human rights in his country.

Please, add your voice to those who are speaking out for the immediate and unconditional release of Fred Bauma and Yves Makwambala.

Let these young men know that they have not been forgotten.

And let the Congo’s political leaders know that the international community is watching and we care deeply about peace, human rights and democracy in the Congo.

Thank you,

I have no regrets about being engaged peacefully for change in my country and I hope that change will come. I believe in the millions of youth who share the same aspiration for freedom and democracy and nonviolence. I am paying the price for that. – quote from Fred in prison
